I would like some suggestions on Vacuum cleaners please……?
Hi everyone, I will be buying a new vacuum cleaner soon and would like some recommendations/ testimonials from regular users of vacuums as to which ones you all feel is/are the best. It needs to be one that is good for picking up pet hair, and doing a 3 bedroom house top to bottom, (so will be on for a good while when in use), also the cost needs to be under £200.

I take it if you’re going to pay for your vaccuum in Pounds, then you must be posting from England or the UK? I live in the U.S., and I’ve owned a lot of different brands of vacuums over the years. Kirby, Electrolux, Hoover, can’t think of all the brands. They all seem to give only a couple of years of service, and then they fail. And vacuum cleaner repair places are becoming as rare as Hollywood starlets who wear underwear. After my last 2 vacuums failed within a week of each other, I just went out to Walmart and bought a $45 Bissell. It’s a cheap vacuum, but it actually cleans quite well. It picks up everything I need it to. And, it can be serviced by the user: there’s a filter under the collection canister that clogs up with dust and grime. But you can lift out the filter, wash it out in a sink, and put it back in, and the vacuum has suction like new again. I figure it’ll give me several years of service, possibly more. So far it’s holding up very nicely. And when it fails for the last time, I’ll just pitch it and go buy another just like it. No more expensive vacuums for me.

Mac Mini is generally okay. You can use standard peripheral devices and easily plug it in.
In terms of user experience, generally all mac computers uses the same OS, Mac OS. I was a Windows user before but after I bought my Macbook and saw how easy it was to use and install new applications, I recommended it immediately to my friends and as well as to my relatives.
In terms of features, Mac Mini has WiFi access, bluetooth and standard peripheral ports. It doesn’t have an iSight but you can easily buy a standard webcam and plug it in.
In terms of performance, if you are only planning to use your Mac Mini as a desktop then this will suit you right. In terms of production activities such as immense video editing, programming, and other activities that will require you a high-spec PC, then go with a Macbook Pro.

Has anyone who has MS had positive treatment with esperanza peptide treatment?
I recently received information on a new homeopathic therapy for the treatment of the reversal of symptoms caused by previous MS episodes. I am just wondering if there is anyone that has used the medication or knows someone who has had either positive or negative effects while using this treatment. My mom has MS and has been considering this as a new treatment option. I know that it is just a spray that the patient can use to dissolve under the tongue once daily, opposed to the daily injections. Esperanza peptide is reported to be derived from cobra toxin. Since the company doesn’t identify the activite ingredient and the drug is not registered for legal use anywhere in the world where drugs must be first be tested, there is no way of knowing what is actually in this product. There have been a variety of drugs that derived from cobra venom, but most ,if not all of them were dropped from production between 30 and 50 years ago.
There is medical research on drugs derived from cobra venom, and one of them – alpha-cobratoxin is known to have a variety of beneficial effects on lab rats, but the effects on rats have not been observed in humans. Lab rats are treated with a drug that mimics MS (its not actually MS), and in the rats, alpha-cobratoxin reverses inflammation and pain, and it improves neurotransmission. There have been no clinical trials on humans. Given the huge profit potential and the half-century that cobratoxins have been studied by pharmaceutical companies, its not a good sign that no major pharmaceutical company is pursuing drug development with cobratoxin.
Anyone that uses this drug is taking a risk of wasting a lot of money and ending up with other problems due to side effects, for the possibility that the drug might actually work. Since there are no clinical trials, there’s no way to know the odds of any particular outcome. If your mom has the progressive form of MS and her present medications are not working, then there probably isn’t much to lose other than wasting money by trying this drug, and its possible there could be some benefit.
By nearly all standards, this looks pretty much like a scam. Companies can sell any medical treatment they want in the US as long as they provide the buyer with a disclaimer that the drug has no known benefits. The company that produces this drug (Nutra Pharma) is well-know for marketing scam products, and the over-the-counter stock is also pretty much a scam. They commonly publish press releases that appear to announce medical breakthroughs, but when you look carefully at the information, the only breakthrough is that someone decided to do a study. An example can eb found at the link. All the announcement says is that they are going to do a lab study on rats. They give the study a number and say it has been approved. No one needs approval from anyone to do a study on lab rats. And you have to wonder, if they need to study rats to know what esperanza is supposed to do, then why are they also giving it to people?? They are smart enough to make sure that their treatments do not contain high enough concentrations of drugs that people will have adverse effects, so they don’t have any legal liability.

Is the status quo of big government really worth conserving?
Conservatives, by definition, are in favor of preserving the status quo and preventing any change, either “progressive” or “reactionary.” The libertarian values upon which America was founded are long gone, as is the limited government of the Founders which actually followed its own Constitution.
Isn’t it inaccurate for those who believe in the founding values of the United States to be called conservative since those values no longer exist? Wouldn’t it be more accurate to describe the supposedly “progressive” proponents of big government interventionist policies as the conservatives in the modern sense since they are basically interested in preserving the status quo even though they pretend to represent “change?”

We don’t WANT big government and never have.
SMALL government is a Conservative value, while BIG and BIGGER government is a Democrat / Libertine (“liberal”) value.

What are some reactionary elements you no longer consider and how do you distinguish yourself from White Nationalists, Supremacists, Reagan Conservatives, Socialist Conservatives, Conservatives by definition, Libertarians, etc.?
Do you completely support this current administration, if not, are you a little critical of how things are going?
I’m mainly interested in the issues that you support and how they might be different from say the average KKK on immigration, abortion, racial attitudes towards people of different races/cultures, etc

I’d like to see more decisions left up to local and state government vs the feds. They have their hands in far too many tills and are a disaster as far as I’m concerned. Smaller government on the federal level is my cup of tea. This would allow us, the voters to vote on issues rather than placing everything into the hands of those who are bought and paid for.
Bush is everything but a conservative. He’s fiscally irresponsible. Many of the things that he’s pushed for are against everything I stand for. The Patriot Act is in my opinion unconstitutional and has robbed us of our rights. The amnesty bill that he’s trying to shove down our throats are against the laws that we presently have on the books and haven’t bothered adhering to. It has nothing to do with racism as my own father is full-blooded American Indian and Mexican. My mother is of German origin and like many other legal immigrants, received her citizenship the legal way. She took classes, studied, took a test in ENGLISH and probably knows more about this country’s history than most natives.
Right now I’m very frustrated with many things that I see happening.

Left wing — an arbitary label that sometimes means liberal, somtimes means Democrat and sometimes means anything that is not conservative — no actual meaning
Liberal — someone who advocates for civil liberties, personal freedoms, and diversity — and who opposes restrictions, especially discriminatory ones
Progressive — someone who things govt should change to deal with new issues or provide new solutions — usually used by someone who used to be a liberal, but is now more concerned with addressing a particular agenda that requires specific govt control
Moderate — someone who is not strongly in one direction or another — may be someone who favors balance, or someone who is undecided
Conservative — someone who favors stablity, security, conformity — and often favors govt regulation of personal conduct to achive those goals

By definition, only people on the far left can be radicals. The analogous people on the far right are properly called reactionaries. Talking about “radical right-wingers” is much like talking about square circles.

VidaCell: anyone used this product?
I don’t really know anything about it, other than it’s a rice-based (I think) health supplement.
Just wondering about feedback, because I can’t find any user websites, just “testimonials” on seller’s websites. I know of someone who spoke of it favourably for her own/family’s use, and on her pets.
Please, no replies or emails debunking it merely on the grounds it’s an alternative health product.

I can breathe a little better at night by using another product, a breathe right nasal strip, but I still snore and wake up several times at night. The tea party seems to be a reactionary movement manufactured by bankers. The very same bankers whose irresponsible risk-taking caused the financial crisis in the first place. Also, the same bankers who went to Congress and argued that it was the taxpayers’ responsibility to make up for the money they lost (a very socialistic concept, by the way). How have these crooks convinced so many in this country that the poor are to blame for our current financial situation?

Maybe they anticipate a Clinton vs. Gingrich revival?
Rather than supporting a capable moderate like McCain, they want Obama to get into office, knowing that they can simply tear him and the rest of the Dems down. (Besides, McCain kept making uncomfortable comments about “naming names”.)
Even the NRA website pointed out that there were many among their audience who were recommending a strategy in this ballpark and exhorted them to vote for the “moderate” rather than gamble on a reactionary movement.
What do you think?

What is the attraction of the far-right British National Party?
Sure they may be genuine anger felt towards the three main political parties, especially New Labour and the Tories, this after the expenses scandal and other disappointments with the Labour government currently in power – but surely these feelings, strong as they are, should be transferred into voting for a proper alternative?
The Liberal Party says they can do better, perhaps they can, maybe they should be given a chance? or a least the balance of power?
Voting for the BNP is just extremist and reactionary.
How about a new broad and united real social democratic alternative. A common sense approach with a drop of community spirit and maybe an ounce of european style modern socialism (not far-left socialist extremism or uncompromising militancy) mixed with a sense of fairness for all, all workers and all classes. This I suggest is perhaps the medicine Britain needs right now. Maybe Labour could also join a movement like that? .. there’s a novel idea!
Incidentally that is why Unions and the Labour party were invented in the first place, to protect all workers and industry and society in general.
Maybe it’s time Labour went back to it’s roots and created a new United Social-Democratic Party and fair-minded Unionism to support it. This would create the strength to exert a new fair, common sense party for the electorate and gain for a change a real social-democratic working alternative.
It would seem that the vast majority of people in Britain want this kind of progressive governance. This would be better, would it not than a knee jerk reactionary BNP style party.
All I am saying here is that maybe it would make sense to move to progressive politics rather than neo-nazi style, bulling, mindless, completely unfair (possible inhumane), discriminatory (possibly racist) and reactionary politics. BNP policies, if they have been thought out, and it would seem that this is unlikely, would produce a horrible version of Britain, the likes of which Britain has NEVER seen, in fact Britain fought hard in WW II against the Nazis, to prevent that kind of regime from being able to ever gain power, influence, or rule in Britain.

While most people are fed up of the mainstream political parties, the BNP are no alternative. The BNP have moderated their policies for public consumptionbut their hidden agenda is still extreme right wing. They call themselve s the BRITISH National Party but then they deny one of the characteristics that make us British, Tolerance.
They fear any one who is different, be it colour, language or culture. They seek to deny the Britishness of people who have lived here for generations. Nick Griffin has recently said that anyone who is not of celtic, Anglo saxon or north european cannot be British. Being British is not a function of colour or genetic origin, it is a state of mind, by denying this the BNP owe more to 1930′a German attitude than modern day.
The more moderate sounding BNP types on YA (hi Paul) recognise the real agenda and choose to post on YA to present a more acceptable image for the BNP. These people are worse than the rabid skinhead types because they are trying to disguise the true ideology of the BNP. This ideology leads us directly to the gas chambers and no amount of suit wearing football hooligans can hide this.

Does the time of day you ask a question in “politics” severely affect the responses you get?
I have noticed that during the day there are more Rabid Republicans and Looney Democrats, whereas towards the evenings (when mostly adults would be participating?) the answers become more reasoned and less reactionary and agressive.

Is it even possible to have a civil discussion about politics on the internet anymore (was it ever that way)? Will the Y!A politics section ever be a respectful and reliable source of information? Or is this place destined to be a haven for trolls, radicals, and reactionaries for all time?
But with the question-answer format of Y!A, it doesn’t really make any sense.
